memory module installation

I've installed a new additional module. in a new iMac. under memory it shows the slot filled. However, on sign in under overview on about this Mac it shows memory as only factory installed. Dfo I have installed memory or not?

Try resetting the PRAM, NVRAM and SMC.

I’ve had to do this when upgrading/installing memory even when the RAM is from OWC or Crucial. I hope this helps.

While those spec's appear to be the same and correct. Once again I stress that Mac's are very picky and standard PC RAM with the same spec's, are not actually the same. Plus it is not required, but it is best to install modules in pairs.


I suggest that you return that module and buy a pair of iMac tested modules directly from either OWCmacsales.com or Crucial.com.

Thanks for responding. Bought through Newegg which was recommended by Apple sales guy. Part came from California., “addon +, 8gb DDR4-2666MHZ. 1.2 V, part number AA2666D4SR8S/8G. Since it doesn’t show up initially that means it’s not integrated into the system? Shows in slot only


another answered said to download remover from Kellyconsulting. The Mac won’t let me run that and the download doesn’t want to be removed. Any thoughts?
