How can I tell which number a text was sent from?

When I receive texts from users in my address book and drill down to see what the phone number is, it shows all their phone numbers. But there is no indication at all which one sent the text.

A previous support answer said the sending number would be in blue and the others in black. But when I click the info button and view the contact, all the numbers in blue.

Additionally...

That's 3 levels deep I need to go to find out the most basic information (which does not even clarify the number used). Could there not be a way to display this simply and accessibly on the screen?

I tried looking at iMessage on my laptop to see if it would tell me the number the most recent text was sent from, and I couldn't see the most recent text since the computer was not on when it was sent. Is there anything that can be done to make the messages stay synced?

Thanks!

Hello, OceanWind.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I understand you want to be able to see what phone number text messages were sent from if a contact has multiple phone numbers in your address book. When you view contact info directly from a conversation thread in the Messages app, there will be an icon in light gray that says "Recent" to indicate which phone number was last used for messages or phone calls with that contact: Send and receive text messages on iPhone

There isn't another known feature in iOS that would be able to discern which number sent the text when viewing the address book. You can always leave feedback on features not implemented that you would like to see: Feedback

As for your other question, you can use iCloud Messages to keep all your messages synced between devices: Keep all your messages in iCloud

Best regards.
