MacBook Air 2020 High CPU load when using video

Hello everyone,

This week I took use of a new MacBook Air 2020. When using the webcam for video calling the CPU load becomes extreme and the ventilator is working overtime. I experience this problem across different video calling software: Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom all see the CPU load go wild. When I switch off video the load quickly returns to normal. I have never experienced this problem with my old MacBook Air from 2013. This is a bit disappointing as I purchased this new laptop hoping for better performance, not worse.

All software is up-to-date and my system specifications are as follows:

macOS Catalina version 10.15.4

Processor: 1.2Ghz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Memory: 16GB 3733 Mhz LPDDR4

Video: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB

This should be more than enough to do simple video calling. I do not have any other demanding applications open at any time, at most Safari with a few tabs and Word/Excel/PowerPoint.

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

With kind regards,

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.15
