Incredible battery drain in new Ventura 13

After I updating my macOS from Monterey to Ventura I am struggling with an incredible battery drain in sleep mode. I've already tried to change many options and even closed all my apps before entering a sleep mode. What I noticed in Activity Monitor is the fact that both kernel_task and WindowServer use a lot of CPU % and make a lot of wake-ups, but I suppose it is ok. Do you have the same issue with a new system?

I am also having the same issue. I basically tried every solution available online to fix it, including reboot smc and also checked activity monitor. Everything is useless, everyday I wake up my MacBook Air m2 on Ventura 13.2 is totally dead or only left a few percent of battery. Apple please fix this problem. I have no any other way to fix it and I rely on the MacBook so much for my work. I will try to turn off the bluetooth and put it to sleep tonight to see whether the issue can be solve or not. I haven't tried to contact the apple support team but I think I will soon. I hope this issue get fixed soon. APPLE PLEASE DO YOUR JOB!!!!!!!

How can Apple rollout an updated OS and not do adequate regression testing on all platforms to ensure that a MAJOR BUG like this doesn't get out to consumers? I'm really losing confidence in the Leadership Team at Apple at this point and I probably won't buy another laptop from them in the future. Come on Apple, wake up and fix this FUBAR problem that YOU HAVE CREATED and are obligated to correct!!!

I could fix it by disabling all apps in Settings → General → Login Items → Allow in Background.

I guess macOS now has an app API to wake up Apple silicon macs like iOS background refresh.

To remove apps altogether from this list, I ran Etrecheck to identify where they are located.

So wanted to let y'all know how I resolved it:

  1. Bluetooth disabled upon sleep.
  2. Found this by using a utility called 'Sleep Aid'. It allowed me to detect what was waking the machine in a visual form and then also reset the sleep settings to whatever I wanted, again, in a visual form. You can google 'sleep aid mac' and find it. The trial was adequate but I paid the developer for it just because it solved the problem.

Have had 0 issue since. 100% battery upon closing the laptop last night, 100% upon reopening it this morning.

Ventura 13.3. MacBook Pro M2 13".

Apple needs to ship a utility like this with the operating system.

Unfortunately, Apple remote service is a kind of drama. I do not know... they are even worse than Manta service or similar ****. Those people there are really a joke. I've been fighting with them for over two months now. I do not even want to think what kind of support I can get in case of a serious problem. I am already tired with Apple. I think this is my last Apple device :( Never ever...

We had many contacts agreed last weeks and nobody called me so far... not even once. The only thing they can say when I call them is "We are sorry, we are doing our best" or "Our service technician will call you tomorrow, day after tomorrow ble ble ble" and of course all those promises were just bullshit.

Already do not know what to do... I cannot pass my Mac to stationary serve as I need it for work.

I had the same issue, draining battery in sleep mode, and I found that Google Updater background item was draining my battery. In case you also use Google Chrome then you have this item too. To disable it just search in spotlight for Login Items and from the settings page toggle off Google Updater. Please note that this will prevent Google Chrome to update automatically.

I thought they fixed it. But i still see significant battery drain during shutdown (~2.8% per hour). The computer shows 100% while charging. After 7 hours of shut down state, it only shows 78%.

Apple seriously needs to fix it pronto.

Apple 13 inch M1, 16 GB memory

2020 Model.

  1. Downgraded to Monterey No effect
  2. Upgraded to 13.3 still no effect

Losing charge approx. 3% per hour consistently. Bluesnooze installed. Manually disabling Wifi during sleep or shutdown.

Even when shut down i am losing battery charge.

Battery status shows normal.

Same issue here. Was using Ventura 13.1 on Macbook Pro M1 2021. Battery started draining at one point. Downgraded to Monterey and it was a better, but not perfect. When Ventura 13.2 came out I decided to give it a try, but now it is draining again - around 25% for less than 24 hours in sleep mode, closed lid. This is really annoying. I am thinking of giving back the laptop and use the warranty. Anyway, I am glad that there is a topic here that we can discuss about this issue, let's hope they fix this with an upgrade soon...

Apple - do you have a solution??? Spent countless hours with your support team reinstalling the operating system etc etc.

I tested in sleep overnight - down from 100% to 70% with nothing attached. Something is terribly wrong with Ventura.

I have tried to reinstall it and all that jazz, no luck.

Will we really have to go back to Monterey???

Do you have screenshots for what the wake calls look like? I'm running 13.2.1 (22D68) and have had the battery drain during sleep resolved, but am now experiencing a much faster and consistent decrease battery during basic tasks (Pages, a couple Safari tabs, Spotify streaming) more similar to what I experienced running heavier tasks (Lightroom and Photoshop image editing, SketchUp model building, etc.) pre-Ventura.

Prior to updating, those basic tasks would sip on the battery life and I could go 2-ish hours with a 10% drain. Now it seems like battery is going down 1-2% every 5 minutes. Even now just writing this post with only 2 Safari tabs open down from 94 to 92%.

Marginal I know, but I'll need to work off a similar machine that's still on Monterey to confirm this drain.
