13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program

I got an email saying that my MacBook Pro was one that had an issue covered by this program.

13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Solid-State Drive Service Program - Apple Support

I haven't gotten it serviced yet.

In the additional information section, it says, "The program covers affected MacBook Pro models for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit."

This edition of the MacBook Pro was first sold in June 2017.

I called Apple Support and got an answer along the lines of, the program does not expire. I am not sure if this is accurate.

Do I have to get my MBP serviced by June 2020 for it to be covered by the program?

I don't think there is any expiration date on this at this time, but I'm not 100% sure, but I would definitely have Apple examine your laptop just to be safe. Apple has been making a fair number of mistakes in their documentation recently so it is hard to say for sure whether the public information is in error or the service provider information is wrong.

Make sure to have a good verified working backup before taking it or sending it to Apple for service as the SSD may be erased or even replaced during the procedure. The repair may only involve Apple upgrading the firmware on the SSD which will erase everything on the SSD, but if the firmware update doesn't work, then Apple will replace the SSD. Apple assumes the user has a backup.

This is one free repair program I wouldn't advise you to miss out on.

FYI, here is a list of all the current publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products like your laptop have multiple programs):
