Left AirPod not working

My left AirPod isn’t working and I’ve tried forgetting the device then reconnecting many many times but it does nothing. Plus I’ve thoroughly cleaned both AirPods including the mesh at the bottoms and left them to charge for an hour. Also when I open the lid the connecting screen doesn’t pop up anymore where I’m shown the case and AirPods battery life the only way it will show up is when I forget device and then reconnect. I’m guessing that has something to do with it but it’s strange because the right one will still connect even without the connection screen popping up
