Problems downloading/ reinstalling Mac Programs

hi, I am in a bit of a pickle trying to reinstall the original program of this Mac book (I believe it’s mid 2012). What happened was I was trying to mod this thing to run Catalina, messed up some where and now I’m trying to get it to where it was out of the factory does anyone know what to do?

MacBook, macOS 10.13

Yes, CRDE. Maybe I can help you. the requirements for Catalina are , for your macBook, one from 2015,2016 or 2017. Lion is not available from the App store. If you HAD Lion on there, reboot, hold down Apple(cloverleaf/command)+R keys together and it should reboot from the recovery partition, if you had one. If not, try Internet recovery. plug an ethernet cable into the MacBook Pro, and hold down Shift, Option, Apple, R. This will try to get you the most compatible OS for your MacBook that it can. You'll know you are successful when you see a spinning globe on the screen and a progress bar. If you "bought" It already from the App store, it should be there under Purchases, as long as your Mac is authorized to do so. There is a way to install Catalina on it, but seeing as how it's not official, we can't talk about it here

good luck

the only thing that comes to mind today is diskmaker X. You'd have to download a copy of El Capitan from somewhere, then using a USB stick of about 12 gigs, formatted appropriately (Mac OS Extended, Master Boot, GUID on) with Disk Utility; make a bootable USB stick. You can google how to do that. I haven't seen an installation USB for El Capitan that you can buy. there might be one out there......I just haven't ever seen one.

I’ve tried doing things similar to that, though there’s no way I’ll be able to run Catalina, but I hope to get to run El Capitan again I know it’s what ever 7.1 means. I’ve been trying to get a installation USB for it, I have no clue if it will work but that’s what I’m trying at the moment
