How to Use CC in Wallet for Web Purchase?

I have added a M/C to my iPad Wallet (in addition to my Apple Card). I then copy the M/C device number from the Wallet to my Safari AutoSave cards. A website vendor asks for a CC number and I select the M/C device number which has been entered into the Safari list. The website tells me the number is invalid.

How does one use a CC (besides the Apple Card) device number stored in the Wallet to make a web purchase?

Obviously one could use the actual card number but the purpose of the device number is to keep the actual number private.

You can only use Apple Wallet and the device number if the website is set up to accept Apple Pay. Otherwise, you'll need to use the actual credit card number.

More and more do. It depends on the device you're using though. I believe you need to be accessing the site with a device that supports TouchID or FaceID. So, if you're using a Mac without TouchID, that might be the sticking point.

Thank you — that certainly limits the usefulness of the Wallet feature. Not many sites take Apple Pay.

Tried with iPhone & Touch ID and iPad & faceid — neither worked. The problem is that safari AutoSave will load the Apple Card from the wallet but it won’t add any of the other cards. If you put in the device CC number from the Wallet manually it fails to authenticate.

You have to be able to use Apple Pay, not Safari autofill to use the device ID. If the website supports it, there will be an Apple Pay button at checkout just like there's often a PayPal button.

If you want to use Safari Autofill, it must be the actual credit card number. I've never noticed any connection between Safari Autofill and Wallet.
