Unable to start screen share from iMessages - SSInvitationAgent unresponsive

From within iMessages I request a screen share to my Dad who is also using iMessage. He never gets the request, rather the SSInvitationAgent is reported as unresponsive by the CleanMyMac application.


I am able to screen share with others, just not his Mac. The Mac is up to date.


Is there some way to reset the SSInvitationAgent so that he can get the invitation?

Anti-virus, Cleaners, Optimizers, Speeder Uppers— all this tend to add issues and complications to the macOS.



The first troubleshooting step is to uninstall <CleanMyMac> one of the worst offenders.


Then try again.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are unable to use screenshare with your dad, but it works fine with others. I’m happy to help.


Does your dad have any security software on his Mac that may be blocking this i.e. antivirus protection, VPN, etc.?


Let’s have your dad do some troubleshooting steps to isolate the cause.


Let’s try the steps here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support Are you able to screenshare with him in safe mode?


Please also try the steps here: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support This will allow me to determine if there’s an issue with the user account or a universal Mac issue.

Thanks for the idea!


We tried Safe Mode. None of the screen sharing requests that I would make to him caused anything to happen.


I also had him search for the "Screen Sharing.app" using the magnifying glass search. He was not able to find it.


Does screen share app work in or is it available while in safe mode?


Since it didnt seem to work, next I will try this from another user account on his Mac.
