Cannot use iMessage and FaceTime - authentication error

Cannot use iMessage and FaceTime, because when I try signing in with my AppleID it just says there was an error during authentication. Tried every solution listed in the respective topics here. The password I use is the correct one for sure :)

Hi tlkn,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are unable to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID. I'd like to help.

Are you attempting to sign into iMessage and FaceTime on a Mac, or an iOS device? If you are attempting to sign in on your Mac, you'll first want to make sure you are signed in on your iPhone using the same Apple ID: Use Messages with your Mac - Apple Support. If you are still unable to sign in on your Mac, try out the steps here: If you can't sign in to your iMessage account or FaceTime on your Mac - Apple Support.

If you are experiencing this issue when signing in on an iOS device, try these steps instead, as they should serve to be helpful for the error you are receiving as well: If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support.

Best regards.

tlkn,

It's our pleasure to help out!

It sounds like you did some digging into this concern on your end as well, which is great. I just wanted to reply to share some additional information that will help clarify things a bit more with iMessage and FaceTime on Mac.

Take a look over this page from the FaceTime User Guide as well: FaceTime requirements on Mac - Apple Support. This article goes more into detail about what is needed in order for FaceTime to work on Mac. This includes iMessage too, since they are both Apple ID services. iMessage and FaceTime services on Mac, work through Continuity. In other words, Continuity is what connects your iMessage and FaceTime services from your iPhone to your Mac, and any other devices: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support.

We hope this adds further clarification. Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. Take care!

Hey! Thanks for your reply! I was trying to sign into those apps on my Mac, and I do not own an iPhone. I've read the help articles on troubleshooting iMessage and FaceTime on Mac (including the one accessible via the first link you've provided), and I don't think it says somewhere, that in order to use iMessage and FaceTime you've got to have an iPhone, otherwise the apps just won't work. On the contrary, there is this - "iMessage is the Apple messaging service you get automatically with your Apple ID".

Now, I've read the introductory articles on those apps and they indeed stipulate iMessage and FaceTime as apps you can use on your Mac if you don't want to reach for the iPhone. So it seems my only way out is to go change my Xiaomi for an iPhone :)

Thanks for the support!
