Airpods not fitting in case

I have a pair of the Airpods 2 and back in february my airpods case stopped charging so i contacted apple for a replacement under warranty and when i received my new airpods case the airpods i originally had don’t fit in the case.. it’s like the case’s magnets are rejecting the airpods and every time i try to put the airpods in the pop back out, and the only way I can in keep in there is if i put them in and close the case. The airpods still won’t charge in the new case when I use that method, so i want to know why this is happening and if there is a way to fix it?
