How to hyperlink a file into a cell in Numbers

Hi, I have switched from Excel to Numbers and trying to insert a hyperlinked file from my hard drive into a cell on my spreadsheet. This would allow me to click onto the hyperlink and open the file saved on my MacBook.

Have tried to google but can't find it. Just older dated comments that this is not possible.

Help!

Thanks!

Generally if you’ve searched to the end of the internet and not found a solution it is because, alas, none exists.

Your options are to link to a URL, sheet within the same document, or compose an e-mail. The only semi-viable workaround would be to host your file online and link to it that way.

You can't link to files stored in the usual way on your hard drive. But you if they are stored via a service like Dropbox that allows you to select a file and copy its item link. .

Just paste that copied link into a Numbers cell.

Dropbox stores the documents in the cloud and also keeps local copies in folder(s) on your hard drive, accessible like any other folders and files in Finder.

In Finder I just go to a file I want to link, control-click (right-click) and choose Copy Drop Box link from the contextual menu, then paste into Numbers (or wherever).

Hi Sarah_s1,

Thanks for this, but this doesn't quite help me. I might have not asked the question correctly...

In excel, I was able to add a hyperlink of a file on my hard drive (in any format, Word, Excel, PDF, JPG, etc.) into a cell. This way, when I'm using the spreadsheet, and I need to reference that file I can click on the hyperlink and it finds it on my computer and opens it up. I'd like to do the same here in Numbers.

So, I'm not looking to hyperlink a URL or email address or a text within the same spreadsheet. Need the ability to link to an actual file in one of my directories on the hard drive.

I hope you have a solution.

Thank you!
