Hello rosalie134,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From your message it seems that you have had two instances where a loud high pitched noise has occurred while you were on a call on your iPhone XR. I know how important it is to have your iPhone performing at its best.

If this is correct, and the noise stopped as quickly as it started, it may have been related to the cellular connection of the call. I would recommend these steps:

1 - Restart your iPhone.

2 - Check for any carrier settings updates: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

3 - Verify that the iOS on your iPhone is up to date: go to Settings > General > Software Update and see if there are any available. As of today the latest iOS version is iOS 13.4.1. If you find you need to install the update, first backup your iPhone with these steps: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

4 - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If the issue reoccurs please message back with the following information:

  • How long did the sound last?
  • Did it occur twice on the same day?
  • Was it with the same caller?
  • Were you in the same location or different locations?

All the best.
