CarPlay was working on my iPhone Xr as of two days ago 5/5. I updated my phone one on 5/6 to iOS 13.4.1, and today 5/7 I plugged the phone into my car via usb cable and I have issues. CarPlay shows up but when I try to do anything, CarPlay stops working and is disconnected.
I tried a new cable and same result.
Has anyone run into this issue after a iOS update?

No issue as far as I am concerned.
I have iPhone 4S iOS 9.3.6, iPhone 6 12.4.6, iPhone SE iOS 13.4.1, iPhone 8 iOS 13.4.1 and an iPad Pro iPadOS 13.4.1. Prior to that I had iPhone 3GS which is not working any more.
I have been updating all these devices whenever a new iOS is released. I have never encountered any issue whatsoever after any update because I have never downloaded anything over internet directly. Always used apps from App Store only.
I have this same issue, when I plug in the cable to my 2020 Mazda CX-9 it instantly takes over the audio system and the music from my car is no longer coming from the driver's speaker. This only used to happen when I was receiving audio alerts from apps like Waze but now it is permanent and changing the volume through my car's audio system changes the CarPlay prompt volume, not the audio volume.
I received the following response from Waze after I notice that it only happens when I open the Waze app when connected to CarPlay:

Interesting, I was running 4.62 and still had this issue. Waze has released a 4.62.2 but it looks like that is only for the car icon rotating correctly while making a turn. Will give it a shot anyway and we'll see how it goes. Too bad I won't really have a need to test it until next weekend....
Tested and verified working in 4.62.2 for my issue, the music returned when there weren't alerts. Now instead I don't seem to be getting any audible alerts but that means it isn't a CarPlay or iOS issue, it is a Waze issue.
I have a 2019 Mazda CX-5 and since the iOS 13.4.1 update I can no longer get CarPlay to work. I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Apple today for my report to be sent to the engineers. I hope to know something by Saturday.
I have a similar issue. I cannot adjust the volume. Anytime I hit up volume it increase the prompt volume, not the audio.
This same thing happened to me yesterday. CarPlay no longer works on my CarPlay receiver.
Since updating my iPhone X to IOS 13.4.1 I can no longer connect via wireless car play to my 2020 Porsche 911. It still works if I connect via lightning cable to the cars’ USB input.
Quick update.. I didn’t do anything and it magically started to work. Most bizarre behavior. I hope everyone gats theirs working as I’m totally dependent on the CarPlay feature.
I have the exact same issue with the volume controlling the prompt but not the music. Started happening when I upgraded to 13.4.1 three days ago.
If you manually force an update to Waze (4.62) the issue completely goes away. Did this on both my phone and my wife’s phone and this resolved the issue for both our cars.
