Setting up a new phone, but changing the Apple ID without losing info

My son got a new phone and we want to set him up with his own Apple ID to get him off mine. How do we do this without losing his apps and contacts, etc? We already backed up his phone.

iPhone 6s, iOS 12

What you can do is create a new Apple ID for him, then set up Family Sharing with your account as the “master” and his as a family member. That way he can download and update apps that were acquired with your Apple ID.
