Phone for my daughter

Hi,

I bought a phone of eBay for my daughter I didn’t want her to have an expensive one due to it being her first phone so I bought one with a broken screen had it repaired,

now the original owner of the phone has given me the 6 digit password to unlock the phone but in order to factory reset it it’s asking for his iCloud password he said he’s removed it from his iCloud account but it’s still asking for his iCloud password. What do I do ?

Is the iPhone connected to Wifi/Cellular data? If not try that as the cloud removal may have not been updated on the phone if it hasn't been connected to the internet after the original owner removed it from their account.

Turning the phone off and on will do a reboot.

Make sure that the original owner does not see this phone under their Apple ID. Have them go to settings > Apple ID and have them verify that the phone does not show up in the list of devices because it sure looks like it still is tied to their account.
