Songs from the Apple Music subscription service cannot be converted to another format or used outside of Apple's ecosystem. Otherwise see Convert a song to a different file format with the Apple Music app or iTunes for Windows - Apple Support.

Alright I deleted the songs from my library and then went to purchase them. When I go to iTunes I can't purchase the song. Instead it says "play" instead of "$1.29". I'm assuming because I already had them? Next steps?
Perhaps you have purchased a copy of what was previously an Apple Music track without removing the download of the Apple Music version and then downloading your new purchase.

Thank you. And I understand that philosophy. So I would then like to purchase the songs and then convert but am still unable. Is there a work around for this?
You should be able to convert purchased AAC audio files that are downloaded to local storage to a format of your choice. Works here.

Can you explain how to do that? I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do so. Thanks
The link I posted earlier includes specific details of the process. If you're getting stuck then where?

Thank you. When I ask it to convert a window pops up and tells me that the song can't be converted because protected files cannot be converted to other formats.
Ok and thank you. I will delete all of these songs from my library and then purchase and try again. thank you and I will let you know
Close iTunes. Reopen. You should see cloud links against any tracks currently in the cloud. Download to get a local copy which you should be able to convert.
