editing text in ios v 13.4 difficult

The new version of iOS is supposed to be easier to use. In particular selecting text and placing the cursor within text. I find it almost impossible to place the cursor anywhere except at the beginning or the end of a word. The old version gave you a magnified view of where the cursor was going, but not now - it either jumps to one end of the word or selects the entire word.

is there a setting to sort this out? It doesn’t matter what app is being used - it’s in the editor.

i also note the capitalisation (see beginning of this sentence) isn’t fixed after more than eight years!

Hello,

iPad now handles text selection in different way. Instead of long-pressing on some text to display a magnifier, you now simply pickup the cursor and place it where you would like. If you double-tap a word, the word will select. If you triple-tap a word, the sentence will select. If you quadrupole-tap a word, the paragraph will select.

You can also use iPad’s trackpad mode. With the on-keyboard full sized, touch 2 fingers to the on-screen keyboard and pan your fingers around. This will move the cursor. If you double-tap with 2 fingers then the trackpad will enter text selection mode.

iPad also supports Bluetooth pointing devices like Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad.
