Rescuing iDVD projects

I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, four Thunderbolt 3 ports). I just upgraded it to MacOSCatalina. In the hard disk I have several movies created with iDVD. Somewhere I read that iDVD probably won't run on any OS newer than Leopard (and I'd hate not to have any other option than partition my hard drive or having to do some other juggling). Is there a way to recover my dvdproj files so I can see them using my Mac, say, to convert them into iMovie files? I don't care if I don't burn them into DVD.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Unless you saved an archived version of the iDVD project file the source files used for the iDVD project will not be in the project file package. They will be on the hard drive where they were located when you first added them to the iDVD project.

If you used still photos to create your iDVD project those too will be in their original location on the hard drive.

If you saved the project as a disk image you can: 1 - play it on your Mac with DVD Player; 2 - burn the disk image to disc to play on a set top DVD player; 3 - rip the movie/video components from it with Handbrake and 4 - restore your Mac with Time Machine (or an external HD) to a previous state where iDVD worked for you and the source files will be still in their original location. I use the following to have older systems to boot into:

Those are your only options.

If you've moved the source files from their original location or deleted them you wouldn't be able to rescue the project even if you went back to an earlier system. iDVD worked well up to High Sierra. With Mojave it began getting squirrelly and didn't work all that well.

Thanks a lot, pal!

Sad to say, none of the options would work for me:

I don't have the projects on DVD to play them on my DVD player.

I own two Macs, none has DVD player.

I gave away my old Mac and, even if a had access to it, I formatted the HD to its original condition.

I won't be able to rescue the projects.

Thanks all the same. I really appreciate your input.
