Some of these older iPad Pro models have contracted a LCD screen issue called “stage lighting” or “curtain lighting”.

This is caused from the LCD backlight panel de-laminating/laminating adhesives loosening from the other layers of LCD touch screen panel.

This seems to be becoming a more common issue with some of these older iPad Pro models.

Mostly seeing this in some of the 2017 10.5 inch and 12.9 inch iPad Pro models, as well as some 1st gen 2015/2016, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro models, as well.

There is nothing to be done except make a call to Apple.

If your 2017 iPad Pro is out of warranty and/or has no more extended AppleCare+, an out of warranty device replacement iPad will be expensive at about 60% of that 2017 iPad Pro’s original cost.

I suggest contacting/reaching out to Apple Product support and services about this issue.

Not that I have seen to date.

I have not seen this issue here with the 2018/2020 iPad Pro models, but newer iPad Pro models are having their own separate issues with the current iPadOS versions, right now.

Issues with the Apple Pencil 2 and issues with Safari/WebKIT, as well as issues with intermittent, unresponsive touch screen issues with a small, but growing minority of iPad Pro users across the past 4-5 years of iPad Pro models.

Also, unfortunately, the newest 2019, 10.5 inch screen iPad Air 3 has started to exhibit this LCD backlight de-laminating issue and the intermittent, unresponsive touch screen problem.

It seems Apple has a handful of long-term issues that have plaguing the larger screen iPad models for some time.

The de-laminating LCD screen layers issue on older larger screen iPad Pro models has been getting more pervasive over the past 6 to 9 months, or so.

The intermittent, unresponsive touch screen issue has been going unresolved by Apple for over 18-months, currently!

I have little confidence, currently, in newer iPad/iPad Pro models as just over two-weeks, ago I purchased another older 2016, 256 GBs storage 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro WiFi/cellular data version to replace my slightly older 2015, 128 GBs storage WiFi ONLY model as my original 2015, 12.9 inch screen iPad Pro has been rock solid and very reliable for me for the past 4 years!

I purchased this used from a well researched seller.

So, Apple lost out on a sale of a new, newer, refurbished iPad from me this time around because of all the iOS/iPadOS issues and the growing iPad/iPad Pro hardware issues currently going on.

This has been my experiences being here and active daily in these communities for the past 18-months, or so.

Your own mileage/experiences may vary.

You do what you wish/want.

Best of Luck to You!

Just got off the phone with Apple after being given a appointment for a service tech to look at the problem. When he said it would be $695 I almost lost it. This darn thing is 15 months old and it’s like buying it all over again. Apple agent was a loss also, no extra warranty no help with repair. That just corks it for me with Apple after unknown number of iPads.

If you had paid for the $130 U.S.D. extended AppleCare+ warranty, within 60 days of initial purchase, that iPad would have still been under warranty for another 9 months and you would have only paid a $49 device replacement “fee” to get another iPad Pro of your exact model.

You chose NOT to purchase extended AppleCare+ for such an expensive iPad Pro.

So, this is what happened and this is the outcome.

It is what it is, now

Another automobile analogy applied to electronic computing devices/industry.

Electronics devices are NOT automobiles.

And for automobiles, your warranty, in most cases, is your purchased auto insurance and maybe purchased AAA club service, for some auto owners.

Also, most automobiles have the vehicle warranties built into their higher costs, now!

ANY electronics/electronic computing devices and computers can fail in any way, at any time, for any reason.

Nothing we humans make is EVER going to be perfect. Never!

Cars are not perfect, either! Hence, recalls.

I purchase extended warranties for ANYTHING that is personal computing and electronics devices.

Especially so for any personal, mobile devices because these are devices are fragile and not super robust devices and these personal mobile devices are constantly mobile and get moved and bounced around get used A WHOLE LOT more than a Windows PC laptop /AppleMacBook OR PC/Apple desktop computer, which I, also, purchase extended AppleCare+ for.

Again, nothing, NOTHING we conceive, design and make is perfect and especially my statement SO MUCH SO applies to computers and mobile, personal computing devices.

These devices are far from perfect, too!

iPhone are practically made of all glass now! These are still thin and fragile devices.

iPads are made of glass front and very thin aluminium back to keep these tablets light.

But these device are just as fragile because of their size.

You bet I purchase extended AppleCare+ for every expensive Apple device I purchase.

I was able to find my wife's brand new, 2019, 10.2 inch screen, iPad 7th gen with 128 GBs for over $100 off from an Amazon seller.

Even though I did not purchase at Apple's pricing, I still purchased $70 U.S.D. extended AppleCare+ for her iPad because without it, I will have to pay very, VERY close to the same price I paid for this iPad, again, if something bad happens to this device.

NOT something I want to do, any time in the next two or three years.

With computers/computing devices, it is not a matter of IF, but WHEN something bad will happen to these types of devices.

So, I do, in fact, purchase these warranties.
