Map My Run app on the Apple Watch 5 Cellular

When using the Map My Run app on my Apple Watch 5 Nike Series with Cellular, the calories are grossly under-reported. I have compared stats on the watch with those on my old android phone during the same workout. After having ridden almost 20 miles, the following were recorded in the Map My Ride app:


From the Apple Watch: 19.99 miles; 1 hour + 35 min + 15 seconds; 12.6 miles per hour; 342 calories.

From the Android to: 19.74 miles; 1 hour + 34 min + 32 sec; 12.5 miles per hour; 1,100 calories.


The minimal differences in time and distance most likely have to do with not being able to start and stop Map My Run on each device at exactly the same time.


I am not sure whether the problem lies in the Apple Watch sending faulty data to Map My Run or in Map My Run interpreting the data received from the Apple Watch in a faulty way.


Any thoughts or fixes?

Same problem here, but I'm using the same app. I ride the same 20 miles everyday, approx same speed, time, elevation and heart rate. I have Apple 5 Series Watch (6.2.6) and Iphone Xs Max (13.5.1). When I launch the Road Cycling app from phone, I burn almost 3x more calories than when I launch Road Cycling from the watch. My health data is up to date. I have not calibrated the watch per responses from other threads, but I don't see how this will make a difference since my hands are stationary on handlebars.


Here are some stats

  • From Phone App: 20.02 miles: 1 hour and 27 min: 14 mph: 142 avg/Heart Rate: 661 Elevation Gain = 1400 calories
  • From Phone App: 20.06 miles: 1 hour and 15 min: 15.8 mph: 146 avg/Heart Rate: 693 Elevation Gain = 1500 calories
  • From iWatch App: 22.73 miles: 1 hour and 29 min: 15.3 mph: 139 avg/Heart Rate: 785 Elevation Gain = 487 calories
  • From iWatch App: 18.95 miles: 1 hour and 11 min: 16 mph: 143 avg/Heart Rate: 596 Elevation Gain = 414 calories


As you can see there is a large difference when launching the same app on watch vs iphone.
