Using Apple TV and Sonos sound system

I am creating an outdoor viewing area and want to have a projector connected to Apple TV to mirror my iPad screen but I would like the sound to come from speakers that I have outside already. I have Sonos Connect (willing to upgrade to Sonos Port). Can I mirror the iPad screen through Apple TV and have the Sonos system act as the speaker in the Apple TV? I have read conflicting reports on the ability to do this. If I can...do I need to upgrade to Sonos Port since it has AirPlay 2?

In order to use airplay it would require a network connection. In the event that there is no internet access content stored on the iPad would be transmitted, with the exception of iTunes purchases (which need to ping a server for authentication).

With the connect it would require a physical connection, the only way to go wireless would be by using Airplay 2 with a port. However, when outputting wirelessly for regular use it can be common to have latency so the recommendation is to use speakers that are wired.
