There is a button at the bottom of my mail window where all my mail is listed that used to -- when I would drag it up -- show me an individual piece of mail, the contents, then I could slide it back down; it was like a preview only adjustable. Now that tiny button is frozen. Fixes? Thoughts? Help?

If you are in full screen mode exit that and try again.
Many instances you have to drag that handle a lot further than you would expect before it pops into view.
If no resolve change the old column view from the drop down back to the newer three coulumn view and verify you have the preview pane visible— then switch back.
