IPad fried

My IPad overheated in the sun for about 3 minutes only...it's been 3 days and it's stuck on the page saying Temperature Too Hot...Emergency...will not start or even do a factory reset

I guess this maybe was just a case of something else in the iPad going bad with iPad that the temporary overheat exacerbated.

Excessive internal heat of any computer or device, no matter how short the interval could casuse other issues.

So, your iPad could have suffered some other damaged from this temporary heat exposure.

I could have been any series of components that have been borderline functioning that the temporary exposure excessive heat sent over the edge to failure.

Without Apple actually telling you what actually happened to this iPad as a result of this temporary sunlight/heat exposure, we can only guess as to what actually happened to this iPad.

But it is a possibility that something else in that iPad may have catastrophically failed due to the temporary exposure of excessive heat.

Be Well..Stay Well...Stay Safe

This definitely has something to do with hardware AND user accident/error!

How do you know how much time in full direct sunlight an iPad can take and function in?

How do you know, for sure, that it wasn't exposed to direct sunlight longer than just a mere 3 minutes?

A glass tablet does not take very long to heat up beyond normal operating temperatures, especially in open, bright sunlight.

I think you left that iPad out in direct sunlight for more than 3 minutes to get completely fried to the point of the iPad no longer functioning, at all!

iPads do not simply completely fail after only a few minutes of exposure to direct sunlight, unless it was an unusually bright and very warm day!

It should have come back to life after 30 minutes to an hour after some cooling down, in a cooler environment.

I inadvertently, left one of my older iPads out in direct sunlight a few years back, while working out a new arrangement for a very large vegetable garden on my family’s land.

I left it on a wooden table, out in the sunlight, for about between 7-10 minutes and returned to it with a large pop-up message stating that the iPad has exceeded its operating temperature limit and the iPad had froze up.

I took it out of the sun, into shade, turned it completely off and let it cool down and it came back to life after about 20-30 minutes, or so.

I own a lot of iPads.

All of them still on their original batteries and all of them still going after 10 years!

My over 4 years old iPad Pro models are all still going.

There is more to this story than you are admitting to or telling us or Apple.

Dear MichelPM, I strongly resent you calling me a liar. My husband, who was a CTO and founder of a large technology company, was standing right next to me and we were just propping open the door to go outside when I put the IPad on a chair for 3, maybe 4 minutes and he can attest to that. We immediately shut it off when the temperature warning came on and kept it off for the next 24 hours except to occasionally turn it on (indoors) to see if that temperature warning came off. We both tried to reboot it many times. I had 3 conversations online with different Apple support people the next day. And the bottom line was after a phone call two days ago with an Apple rep (who then referred my call to a senior rep for additional consult) it was determined I would have to send in the IPad for repairs or buy a new one and since it's 4 years old (but according to their records is actually 6 years old determined by the Serial #, so it was sold to me at Best Buy as new, but it was already 2 years old), they recommended that I don't bother to send it back because it would cost a minimum of $250 to send it in and have it repaired and a this IPad new is $329, so you can do that math....not worth it. They also said that the older machines do not support current software. By the way, I live on the central west coast and it rarely gets above 65-70 degrees here and that day was no different...yes, the sun was out, but it was far from hot. Okay, I hope this clears up some of your accusations. I know you love your IPads and Apple products and I agree they make terrific products. I actually bought the original Apple computer when it first came out...for over $2000 and had to take a loan out to buy it then! So I'm not a newbie or a person who distorts the truth, as anyone who knows me would attest too.

Keep enjoying your computers and stay safe & healthy during this terrible pandemic. I don't think any of us needs to be spreading bad feelings, so this is the last thing I will say about it. I just needed to clear my case.

Okay, so I just finished a call with a rep and the bottom line is the IPad is a goner....I can send it in for repairs but they will cost me as much as a new IPad...only have had it for 4 years...I expect a longer life out of a computer that costs this much, but hey I'm not a total Apple person...I use a PC for work and have an Android phone, so a mixed family of devices. I loved loved my IPad and will miss it, but not spending $329 right now for a new IPad. Thanks, but I'll be investing in something that lasts longer.
