Touch ID issues

Can’t get my Touch ID to activate. I turn on my iphone6 and get message saying can’t activate Touch ID on ‘‘this phone. I go to settings then general then fingerprint I’d and I choose unlock phone and it says failed . And the add fingerprint is grayed out. What can I do?
