how to ping your lost airpod if it is dead?????

ok, I fell asleep wearing my left airpod and I cannot find it anywhere around me, I have searched for so long and I can't find it. If I try pinging it on Find My when I ping them, it only does the right and if i try to mute the right and play the left, it doesn't play anything and starts over at the "Play Sound" screen. I have watched every video on this planet read every article and nothing as told me to do anything but just to ping it. But I can't. please help.
