Why did my playlists disappear after reauthorizing my computer?

After starting using Apple Music again through family sharing, my songs went grey.

I deauthorized and authorized my computer (through ITunes) thinking it will solve the problem, but after doing that my playlists and songs completely disappeared. I need help bringing them back, if possible.

I have contacted Apple support a couple of times but the articles they sent me didn’t fix the issue- I have the IPhone 6 and don’t have the required settings in my phone.

Thank you!

Hello Emily,

I understand that after starting a subscription to Apple Music on your Mac, you noticed your music had turned a grey color and after deauthorizing and authorizing the music isn't listed.

It sounds as though the Sync Library feature may need reenabled, if so here is a resource that can help:

Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music

Specifically, use these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Music.
  2. Turn on Sync Library. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on Sync Library.

Have a great day!

Hi EmiIy,

Thank you for the updated information regarding not seeing the playlists within your iTunes and Apple Music.

It sounds as though your settings are all correct, in that case let's take a look and verify Apple Music is turned on for the Family Share. Here is a resource to check that below:

Set up Family Sharing

Within the Family Sharing menu, do you see under shared features that Apple Music is set to "On"?

Cheers!

Hi EmiIy,

Based on the screenshot you provided it does appear you have the correct setting turned on using the iCloud Music Library, in the latest version of iOS this feature is known just as Sync Library.

You're on the right track!

Here is a resource that can help with next steps:

Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music

Specifically, these steps below

"In iTunes for Windows, iCloud Music Library isn't turned on by default. To turn on iCloud Music Library:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Edit > Preferences.
  3. Go to the General tab and select iCloud Music Library to turn it on. If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on iCloud Music Library.
  4. Click OK."

Cheers!

EmiIy,

Thank you for the updated information regarding Apple Music through Family Sharing, based on the screen shot applied above Apple Music is definitely enabled.

In that case, it sounds as though the songs and playlists may not have synced with Apple Music prior to the deauthorizing and reauthorizing of iTunes.

If you still need help with the Sync Library feature, here is a resource to use to contact Apple Support below:

Cloud Music Library

Have a great day!

Hi Jameson,

Thank you for the helpful response. However, the Sync Library feature doesn’t appear in my settings. I am subscribed to Apple Music and I do have the latest iOS version on my iPhone and the latest iTunes version. In addition, the devices are connected to the same network.

I’ll mention a few facts that may help figuring out the problem:

I’m not using mac but a simple laptop. Also, I’m using family sharing (I’m not the organizer).

Playlists and songs don’t appear on my iTunes nor the Apple Music app on my iPhone. It’s like they don’t exist anymore.

I also know iPhone 6 doesn’t get the iOS 13, if it is somehow related.

Thank you again!
