Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service - Under the 'before you send your device' - step 5 prompts you to erase your device before sending it in for service. There is a link at the end of Step 5 telling you how to erase your iPhone from iCloud.com if you are unable to erase it because of a functional issue. If the device is functional, we encourage you to back up your device and erasing it prior to getting it repaired. If your iPhone is repaired by Apple, it will be erased during repair.
