Let me restate it, is it worth getting it to work again on my current system or is the OS so outdated that it will not really be useful? Thanks for your answer. I still have an original Mac "cube" from (84?) that still works.
Any discussion of worth is entirely your decision. If you want to try to sell it, try. If you have room to store it and want to, store it. If you want to give it away, give it away. Scrap it, whatever. The worth of a second-generation iPad is entirely your call. In the general market for folks interested in iPads? Such an old and unsupported device will have comparatively little resale value.
Without any available, older versions of many, MANY popular, third party apps, any longer, this iPad is really obsolete, now.

That's entirely your decision.
If not and if it still works, give it to a local youngster.
