Why Mac OS duplicate users files (Catalina)

Why on the Catalina OS is the "Users" folder duplicated on "MacHD" and in the "Systems" folder with all the data? Which folder is the main one and is it possible to delete the duplicate?

Duplicated User Files in System (Macintosh HD - Data?) - Catalina My mac is on low storage space for a long time (before Catalina). I turn off Time Machine for a while and there was no local screenshots left. As the first screenshot from OmniDiskSweeper shows, my 152.9G of user files are 'duplicated' into System Catalogue? The system and users are just two paths shown in the last two screenshots, the 152.9G of files are completely the same. If I delete either of them, another get deleted as well. In Catalina, what I understand is users files will be in Macintosh HD - Data, and system files will be in Macintosh HD, but right now my users files are also in Macintosh HD - Data which cause storage problems. Any suggestions?

Can I delete contents of /Users/Deleted Users?? I got a new MacBook Pro and migrated my user account and all data from my old one. The new machine is running Catalina. I just noticed that the Deleted Users folder contains the entire contents of my home user directory thus doubling disk usage. My user name is the same on the old and new machine. Is there a way to delete everything from the Deleted Users/ folder? Thanks, Peter

It's not duplicated. It may look like it is, but it isn't.

It is not possible to delete the one in the /System folder as that is mounted read only.

If you attempt to delete the other, you will delete all of your files.
