I was asked "Remove SIM card from your new iPhone" I was not given any explanation as to why. Plz help

I need to understand what & why this command'd given to me without any explanation to a novice. Please someone who knows the meaning for this command, and what does SIM card mean & what does it do?

SIM stands for subscriber identity module or subscriber identification module. It would then follow that a SIM card contains unique information that identifies it to a specific mobile network, which allows the subscriber (like you) to use the communication features of the device.

Without the SIM card inserted and working correctly, most phones cannot make calls, send SMS messages, or connect to mobile internet services (3G4G, etc.)

Who asked you to remove the sim card in your iPhone?

I know how to remove the SIM card from my new phone--There came along with a paper clip-like SIM card removing tool--, but it says "...replace with a new card (that came supposedly with the new phone I just got). The problem is there's no new card to replace with for the one I remove as I was asked to do, that which wasn't in the pocket when the new phone was delivered to me. What am I to do?!

I used my iPhone 6S activated at the Verizon Shop on the day where I bought it. Ignorance had been a ‘bliss’ ironically, & no one asked me to remove the SIM card then, & naturally I didn’t need to ask or know what SIM card is & now when I was asked to remove it, I realized I did not know what it is. Thanks all who gave me explanations & I need still more time to understand fully to my satisfaction. Till then I’d feel still uncomfortable. I’ll read up more info related this area and beyond. Thanks all, again!
