ethernet connection deleted

I have a macbook air using macOS high sierra 10.13.6. I accidentally deleted my ethernet connection. now I cannot get it back. I have rebooted several times to no avail.

You should be able to simply add it again using the [+] button in System Preferences > Network.

I have tried that several times. It only offers a "Thunderbolt Bridge" option.
