Mail App so many emails even after being deleted

Did anyone get a good answer about emails piling up in the mail app even after they have been deleted? Two days ago I had over 7,000 because I deleted and redownloaded the mail app, then yesterday I had 10,000. This morning I woke up to 17,000... old emails coming back and this is stressing me out.

iPhone 6s, iOS 13

  1. Remove the email account(s) in question from the Mail app
  2. Log into that (those) email account(s) from the respective website(s) from a computer or another device and clean up there.
  3. Add the email account(s) back to the Mail app on your iPhone.

Does that help?
