Apple Music

All 3 of the people in my family have separate Apple IDs with separate Apple Music Accounts. We want to get the family plan to save money. How does this work when we all want to keep all of our own music and continue using our own Apple IDs? Will trying to switch to the family plan mess up what we already have?
