Magic trackpad 2010 won’t accept non-rechargeable batteries

I got this for my Mac mini back in 2010 with Apple’s own rechargeable batteries. Now these batteries are old and aren’t able to recharge much over 5% again so I was trying regular non-rechargeable batteries but it won’t start the trackpad.

I’m trying to find something about this, but was the old 2010 trackpad only able to work with apple’s own rechargeable batteries?

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

The trackpad doesn’t require Apple-branded batteries, or rechargeable batteries.

If yours don’t work, they might be out of charge - not anusual for store-bought batteries as they often sit on shelves or in warehouses for years before being bought.

Look in the battery hole with a flashlight. You will see the contact for the + end of the battery is recessed beneath a plastic ring. This prevents the flat (minus) end of a reversed battery making contact. With some batteries, the bump on the + end is not high enough to reach the contact through the plastic ring at the bottom of the battery compartment.

Try a different brand of batteries.
