I mostly use Google Drive to store my files along with Google's Backup and Sync app to access these directly through Finder on my Mac. Would these files be duplicated and stored by Time Machine as a reliable backup?
Any insight on this would be very helpful!

Time Machine backs up everything on your drive unless specifically excluded or on a Boot Camp partition so, it should work. I don't use Google Drive so I can only be 99% certain. You can always try it.
You can always navigate to your synced folder and click the “Enter Time Machine” button to verify. Don’t just assume it works. Some apps can exclude their data from Time Machine.

I don't. I don't see any reason to have more than one cloud service. Cloud services are meant to sync files between devices, not for backups. I don't need my devices synced using more than one method.
I only use G Drive, mainly because our team use it at work. But yes, wouldn't make too much sense to use two cloud services.
The question was more if you backup cloud synced files on TM. But sounds like you do!

Time Machine backs up my iCloud Drive. etresoft's point was check the Google Drive while in Time Machine to make sure Google's software wasn't blocking Time Machine from copying its files.
