What date does Photos App use in Catalina use for sorting and other purposes? I know if I view a JPEG there are several date so wondering (ex, Date Created, Date Modified) which one is the main one.
It tries to use the date in the Exif metadata - that's where your camera records the date and time of the shot.
If that's not available it reverts to the creation date of the file.
It should be noted that the Exif date and the file creation date are not necessarily the same thing.

That really can depend on the brand of camera. Essentially they should be the same thing, tho the second might be used more commonly of scanned images. However, if in doubt, the earliest one is most likely correct, for obvious reasons.
Thanks for the reply! When you talk about EXIF date do you mean "Date Time Original" or "Date Time Digitized"?
