Background WhatsApp activity

Even with the background app refresh option in off mode the battery status is showing WhatsApp background activity which is draining much of the battery

Background App Refresh allows an app to start in background on its own for whatever processing it wants to do. Even if Background App Refresh is off, if you have Notifications enabled for the app when a notification arrives the app will run in background to process the notification. This is a background process triggered by an “event” (the arrival of a notification) and is not the same as an app just scheduling itself to run. Any app that has notifications enabled can do this, as well as an email account that is set to Push or Fetch.
