How do I restore a previous backup on my Mac to my Ipod?

How do I restore a previous backup on my Mac to my Ipod? I backed up my iTunes, then I did a sync to download my voice memos to iTunes, but I lost the songs that were on my iPod. I'm trying to get the songs restored to my iPod.
