When I view different sites, id like to have them open on a separate tabs. In other words, i don't want them on one long bar (below the browser). I apologize for any incorrect wording. Im not computer savvy. thank you

Safari is perfectly happy to open a link in a new window. Control-Click on the link and you will have a choice of opening the link in a tab or in a new window. Control-Click is also Right-Click.
Both Safair and Firefox will allow you to click and drag a tab to the desktop and it will turn into a window.

You don't say what browser but in FireFox in Options just uncheck the option to open new sites in tabs rather than a new window.
