Catalina/iPod sync problem

I have a Mac mini running Catalina 10.15.4. I use it primarily as a music server and the music library is housed on it. I have not been able to sync my iPod (a gen 5.5 iPod video) since the latest Catalina (10.15.4) update. No problems with earlier releases. I have not also been able to restore, as it will hang up and give a 1429 error. It Restores and syncs on my win10 pc. The mini recognizes and mounts the iPod without any issue, but it hangs up when syncing and there seems to be no movement of files from the mini to the iPod. I have contacted support and they were polite, but not helpful.

anyone else have the problem and/or have suggestions as to how to make this work?

Got you, you mentioned that above. You could see if Disk Utility can successfully format the drive as HFS+ when it is in disk mode. Finder may then be able to restore the firmware to the device and set it up for syncing.

No hdd. I have this set up wit 1tb flash memory on an iflash board. I recently took the whole thing apart, repartitioned everything successfully and put it back together. This works fine on the windows pc, just not the Mac. I have other iPods that were working fine before this and don’t work on the Catalina based computer.

the problem is specific to the Mac.
