MacBook startup problems after lying idle.

My macbook hadn't been used for a while. After charging, it will not let me log in. I get the message that there was an error connecting to the apple ID server. It will not let me reload the OS as it needs a password, and I get the same message. Researching online I suspect the clock needs to be reset. But I cannot do this without logging in first. If I do a safe boot up there is nowhere I can seem to be able to set the clock. I tried using my iPhone hotspot to connect to internet but it will not connect, not accepting the password. Any help appreciated!

MacBook, macOS 10.14

Hello there Wizz9999,

I understand you are having an issue logging into your MacBook. The MacBook hasn't been used in a while and when you attempt to log in you see a message that there is an error connecting to the Apple ID server. You also have this issue when attempting to log in using Safe Mode. The first thing I would try is to reset the NVRAM. You can find steps on how to do so in this article. Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

If the issue continues you can Contact Apple Support

I hope you find this helpful!

Cheers!
