macbook air fan is loud

I recently purchased a brand new MacBook Air. I'm sitting at my desk right now and the fan is going non-stop. I'm just returning emails. No music playing. Nothing running the background. What's the deal?? Wishing I had gone with the MacBook Pro again.

I have a 2019 MacBook Air and I normally have several apps open at the same time including the most of the apps that come with Office 365. In other words I put quite a load on the computer (8GB RAM) and I have not had a fan issue.

  1. Run Activity Monitor app and see what may be using up the CPU to give you an idea. If there is a process that is running in the background and causing this then quit that process from Activity Monitor and see if that helps. If not then-
  2. Reset SMC by following the directions applicable to your MacBook Air here ➔ How to Reset SMC. If that does not solve things then-
  3. Reset NVRAM/PRAM by following the directions applicable to your MacBook Air here ➔ How to Reset NVRAM/PRAM. If that does not solve things then-
  4. Enter ➔ Safe Mode and see if the fan issue still exists in Safe mode. Log out of Safe Mode and then reboot computer. If that does not solve things then-
  5. Finally if none of the above works then you can enter ➔ macOS Recovery Mode and reinstall the macOS and see if that solves it.
