Email error: "Message has not been downloaded from server"

I see that this question has been asked before, but not since 2016, so let me see if there is anything new.

I have three Apple devices: Mac, iPad and iPhone. I am signed into each device using the same Apple ID. Mail works fine on Mac, and generally works fine on iPad. But on iPhone, I often get the above error and cannot read my mail items. Anyone know how to fix this?

FYI, I can confirm that none of the following fixes the problem:

  • Closing the Mail app an re-opening it.
  • Removing my Mail account and re-adding it.
  • Turning off wifi then turning it back on.
  • Turning off my wifi router then turning it back on.
  • Connecting to a different wifi network (say, at a cafe).
  • Turning off cellular then turning it back on,
  • Turning off iPhone then turning it back on.

So, again, does anyone know how to force an iPhone to download email messages?

Hello Pomme4moi,

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with mail loading normally on your iPhone. This Article should provide options to resolve your issue.

If you can't receive emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!
