Do the new generation ipads come unlocked or do you pick your carrier?
All iPad devices purchased directly from Apple are “unlocked” - in that they are not subsidy-locked to any specific carrier. You can choose the Cellular Carrier of your choice - and change Carrier as your contract will allow.
However, by contrast, iPad devices purchased from a Cellular Carrier may be locked to that Carrier. Carrier rules will determine when (or if) the Carrier (Subsidy) Lock can be subsequently removed. In this respect, iPad purchased from a Carrier may be restricted in precisely the same manner as a mobile phone may be restricted when sourced from the Carrier.
I hope this clarification is helpful to you.

On the physical edge of your iPad you will find the SIM tray; its a tiny narrow hatch that is about 1cm long - with rounded ends. At one end of the hatch is a tiny hole. Ensure that you have correctly identified the SIM slot before proceeding.
NB: Don’t poke anything into any holes of you iPad except the SIM tray eject hole.
Your cellular iPad will have been supplied with a “SIM tool” in white cardboard envelope. The tool looks like a metal paperclip, but has has a single point. Alternatively, you can use an unfolded metal paperclip. Inset the tip of the tool (or paperclip) into the hole until you feel it stop - then press inwards firmly. The SIM tray will pop out.

Thanks. Wasn’t sure because when I looked online it didn’t show carriers when I selected Wi-Fi cellular it didn’t show carriers but it does for the phones. And when I stopped in the AT&T store they didn’t have the new iPad Pro.

Hi, could anyone help me on knowing how to unlock my iPad to fit my EE sim I’ve had a look and it says network provider is EE but it doesn’t take the sim I’m just a bit confused. If anyone could help be much appreciated thanks 👍
Hello,
All cellular iPad models are not locked to a specific carrier.
If purchasing directly from Apple, you’ll not be selecting a Cellular Carrier. Your Airtime contract is arranged with your chosen Carrier.
