Mac acting as if shift key is pressed but doesn't write in capital letters

Hello!

My Mac (MAC OS Catalina) is acting like the shift key is always pressed e.g. when I click on a new link in Chrome it opens as a new window; when I click into the text inside a text editor it marks everything between the last pointer location and the location where i clicked last ... so typical behaviour for when the shift key is pressed. However, when typing, i don't write in capital letters and when I press shift key the desired letter becomes capitalized. Also, the Keyboard Viewer (Accessibility) doesn't show either of the shift keys as pressed.

I restarted my Mac but the behaviour continues.

Have you tried to check if the issue still persists in the Safe Mode?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

There is also free Malwarebytes which may take care of it...
