Keyboard boots into Extended ASCII character set

How can I reinstate ASCII standard character set?

After booting MBP the keyboard is using the extended ASCII character set. Use the sticky key function rests the character set.

Have had to disable password logon, as password extended characters are produced making it impossible to logon. Using external keyboard can logon. Then execute sticky keyboard, which resets character set to standard.

This situation occurred after an overnight update was applied.

It's not really a "character set" issue. The standard keyboard layout is programmed to produce all sorts of special characters when you hold down the option key or option plus shift. If you get special characters when typing, it indicates the machine thinks that these keys are always depressed for some reason. Sticky keys will normally have option produce one special character even after you release the option key. If an external keyboard works right all the time, there is a chance your internal one has gotten damaged.

You might try a safe boot and see if it helps.
