Is there a way to download an OS onto a disk or external drive to install on my other Mac. I recently purchased a new mac and attempted to erase info from my old mac. I did what was to be done, I think but I cannot get past the Disk Utility menu which has nothing in it at this time. Help.

The latest version of Mac OS for a 2011 imac already is HS 10.13.6 so you have take it as far as it will go. If you need later versions of Mac OS then you need a new Mac. If you want to run an earlier version of Mac OS on the 20111, you will need restore from a Time Machine backup in order to do so.
So if you are having a problem with 10.13.6 what you should do is first ensure you have a fully working backup, either a Time Machine or bootable clone backup. Then you should restart in the Recovery Partition (hold down Command + R on startup) and then re-install Mac OS on the hard disk. This will not overwrite your data.
There is now way to download Mac OS to a 2010 MBP. You need the DVD.
Please describe more completely what version of Mac OS is currently installed on the mac and what version of Mac OS you want to install. Please include the model year of the iMac too, that is critical information.
I just bought a used macbook pro 2010 and I am unable to download a new operating system. It attempts to load and gets all the way to almost the end and seizes up and won't do anything else. It just runs continuously and overheats till I turn it off and start over. Please help.
Thank you. I have iMac 27 late 2011 using macOSHigh Sierra 10.13.6. I can only get to the macOS utilities and no further. I believe I need to reload the OS to do anything and I can’t seem to do. Is there something I can try or do I need a Tech.
Thank you I rebooted and held down Cmd+R until there was about 50% of the bar under the Apple. It allowed me to Gi to macOS Utilities > install OS and problem solved.
