why my iphone x shows up as apple usb multiplexor?

My iphone x shows up as Apple USB multiplexor in device manager and won't connect to itunes. Any idea why?

Windows, Windows 10

Most likely the iPhone driver is not installed on your PC. You need to download iTunes from https://apple.com/itunes because the one that comes built in to Windows 10 or comes from the Microsoft Store does not include the drivers.

Have you updated iTunes lately, or did you just download it? It looks like I forgot to post the link in my first reply I told you to check. See this, If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support


Besides that, trying to get anything from the phone using File Explorer in Windows 10 is a test of your stamina. It has gotten to be very difficult, at the least, to do.

Thanks for the reply but I'm sure I don't have a bad cable or dirty/failing lightning connector. This problem only happens when I connect my phone to my desktop. When it's connected to my laptop it works fine. The phone does get charged when connected to the usb port. When you say something may be malfunctioning on my USB chain what exactly do you mean?
