QHD on Philips 349X7 not working after Catalina update

Hi Folks

I have a 2018 vintage macbook pro driving a Philips widescreen monitor 349X7 (through an HDMI adaptor). Up until an hour ago it worked fine. But an hour ago I was running Catalina 10.15.3.

I did the update, and now all I can get is 1600x1200.

The display preference seems to think the monitor is a DP2HDMI1630 ... which is the HDMI adaptor/cable, not the monitor itself I think ... what gives?

Any advice gratefully achieved. I'm currently dead in the water.

Ok, it's working now. What I needed to do, and I think I had to do it in *this order*:

reboot mac.
unplug adaptor
unplug hdmi
replug hdmi
replug adaptor

and now it's recognising the display.

I think I had done all of those things, but not in that order ...
